I Started Smoking When I Was 11 Years Old
My name is Christina. I am about to celebrate my one year vaping milestone on August 5th. It’s more than just quitting smoking however, this is huge for me.
I started smoking when I was 11 years old. I am now 41. At 11 I didn’t realize what I was doing to my body, I just wanted to be cool like my older cousins. Did it choke me and make me cough, yes it did. Did I need a pretty label and different flavors to start? No I didn’t. I was getting cigarettes at the local gas station daily by the time I turned 15. They would selll them to me, all I had to do was tell them my dad sent me. I was already a pack a day smoker at 15 years old.
When I was 18 the effects were already starting to show on me. I had just lost my aunt due to lung cancer but it didn’t stop me. I was still smoking, now a pack and a half to two packs a day. At 18 years old I already had shortness of breath and a smokers cough. I still didn’t put the pieces together and figure out that the cigarettes were doing so much damage.
At 21 I got pregnant with my twin girls. I cold turkey quit cigarettes the entire pregnancy, but as soon as I gave birth, it was right back to smoking. Even though the effects of smoking had already started to settle into my body, it was a craving that wouldn’t go away. I never smoked near my kids, and always went outside but I still smelled like an ashtray while holding them. I quit one other time, during my second pregnancy with my son, but yet again, it was the first thing I wanted after birthing him.
At 27 I was smoking around 3 packs of cigarettes a day! I was hooked, and even though I could see physical signs of damage I didn’t want to believe that my cigarettes were the culprit. I went to doctors trying to find out why I was swelling in my legs, which happened during both pregnancies but was dismissed as pregnancy swelling. I finally got my answer. The things I loved to use as a vice for stress, a morning wake up with my coffee, a “cool” looking cigarette was taking me, mind, body and soul. They also caused severe damage to the veins in my legs.
At the age of 30 I was also diagnosed with lupus. That is an auto immune disease that basically has your body attacking itself. Well the smoking, plus the lupus had me to the point that I was afraid. But I couldn’t stop smoking. I tried patches, they didn’t work, I tried the gum, still didn’t work. Now, thinking back on these days, I don’t think I wanted anything to work because I loved cigarettes so much.
By the age of 38 I was officially in danger of amputation of both legs, had already lost one lung, and had spots showing up on my other lung. I knew then, it was either my life, or death. So my doctor prescribed a pill. I can tell you, from experience, the pill did work. But as soon as I finished up the prescription I was smoking again. I went through this back and forth with that “magic” pill three times. I had the craziest dreams, the worst nightmares.
It was effectively making me see things that weren’t there, I was moody, and I wasn’t myself. My legs were in such bad shape from the damage and I was severely depressed from both my physical appearance because both legs had to be wrapped tightly. I would get stares and the question of, “What’s wrong with your legs?” every time I went somewhere.
So I got even more depressed and the only time I left my house was to go to doctors or to get cigarettes. Yes, even though I was in danger of dying, or being an amputee, I still smoked!
At 39 years of age I started looking into alternative ways to finally end the smoking for good. By that time my kids were grown up, so my twins decided to get me a vape. It wasn’t a big fancy box mod, but I cried when they handed it to me and said, "We want you to live Mom". My doctor even suggested I try vaping. Unfortunately, the only juices that were available for this particular vape were either tobacco or menthol. I really tried to love it, it was helping. The flavors were just nasty. But I’d saved enough money that I was able to order me a setup that would change my life for the better.
I found EightVape. I got a Vaporesso Revenger Mini kit, and some really yummy sounding juices. I never went back to smoking again. If it were just tobacco or menthol flavors, I would have probably started smoking again. After all, tobacco was what I was trying to get away from. Trust me, a yummy custard or cream or fruit was way better than any cigarettes I’d ever had. Fast forward to the present day. I’m smoke free! My legs are healing! That’s right, I’m no longer in danger of losing them. They aren’t 100% healed but hopefully they will get there.
Since my vape journey has began, I can breathe, I can walk, I have hope! I have also helped others begin their own vape journey. I have personally changed 7 lives for the better! I bought them small pod systems and from there they graduated to other devices. All 7 are now vapers, and I tell them that the cheapest and quickest way to get what they need is through EightVape. I live in a very small town, the closest vape shop is 4 hours one way drive. So I rely a lot on Eightvape for my vaping needs.
I just want to thank you Eightvape and the entire vaping community that I have become a very close friends with. Without your services and their encouragement, I probably wouldn’t be here today to even tell my story.
