Pod With a Built-In Coil, or Pod Plus Coil?
Pods work one of two ways, and knowing which you have decides what you need to buy:
- Pods with a built-in coil. When the flavor fades, you replace the whole pod. Most compact pod kits work this way — Vaporesso XROS, SMOK Novo, and UWELL Caliburn pods, for example.
- Empty pods that take a separate coil. The pod lasts much longer; you just push in a new coil when the flavor fades. Common on pod mods, such as VOOPOO’s PnP pods and Vaporesso’s Luxe XR pods.

Rebuildable Pods
For vapers who build their own coils, some pods are rebuildable: the Aegis Boost RBA Pod and the Aegis Boost Pro/Plus RDTA 4ml Pod.
Matching a Pod to Your Device
- Match the exact model. Similar names don’t always mean compatibility — a Nord 6 pod isn’t a Nord Pro pod, and Caliburn generations use different pods.
- One exception worth knowing: Vaporesso’s XROS Series pods are designed to fit every XROS device, so you don’t need to match the generation.
- Check the resistance. Where a pod comes in several resistances, higher (around 1.0Ω+) gives a tighter, cigarette-like draw; lower (around 0.4–0.8Ω) gives more vapor.
Getting the Most From a New Pod
- Prime it. Fill the pod and let it sit at least five to ten minutes before your first puff, so the cotton fully soaks.
- Replace it when the flavor turns muted or burnt, or the pod starts leaking or gurgling. For most vapers that’s every one to two weeks.
- Sweet e-liquids wear pods out faster than fruit or menthol.

What’s the difference between a pod and a cartridge?
They’re usually the same thing: the part that holds your e-liquid and attaches to the battery. Some brands call theirs a cartridge, others a pod.
