What are Coil Replacements for Vapes?

The vape coil and tank technology have significantly improved vaping experiences over the years. Besides e-liquids, particularly the introduction of synthetic nicotine and nic salts, high quality vape coils have been a massive game changer in the world of vaping.

There have also been significant changes in mesh coil technology over the years, improving coil life and vapor production. Gone are the days when rebuildable tank atomizers and wire coils were considered cutting edge in the vaping world.

For those wondering, vape coils are essentially vape tank components that produce vapors from e-cigarettes when heated.

There is a wide range of vaping coils available these days to meet the needs of different vaping enthusiasts. Replacement coils for vapes are arguably the most important part of modern vapes because they essentially help produce the vapors.

Why are Coils Needed?

As mentioned before, a vaping coil is arguably the most important component of any e-cigarette. Their main function is to heat your tank’s e-liquid to turn it in vapor form. Let us look at how a vape coil does that:

  • The wicking material present inside the casing essentially absorbs your tanks liquid once you fill it with a clearomizer
  • The coil’s wire, which is the tiny metal spiral present in the wicking material heats up using the battery’s power and begins vaporizing the liquid present in the wick
  • Once you drag on your e-cigs drip tip for a few seconds, the vapor travels from your vape’s chimney and reaches your lungs

How often do you need to replace Coils

Vape coils have a certain shelf life and they do not last forever. These coils endure regular cooling and reheating, which eventually causes them to burn out. You need to replace your vape coils regularly and many expert vaping enthusiasts suggest changing your coils after every 3 to 4 weeks.

The amount of times you replace your coils usually depends on a few factors, which include the device and the e-liquid type you are using. In case you prefer using e-liquids with a high VG, you will need to get replacement coils for vapes more regularly. However, if you prefer e-liquids with a high PG level, you will not worry about replacing coils too frequently.

Cleaning

Getting a clean vape is arguably the best way to ensure your e-cig performs optimally. Vape juice ingredients generally do not get stains on your device. However, the residue could accumulate over time and affect performance. Darker flavors, especially those that contain vegetable glycerin can gunk up inside your coils. Too much gunk can significantly impact vapor production and even result in low flavor output.

Priming a Vape Coil

Follow these steps to prime your vape coil up the right way:

  • Fill the tank with the appropriate amount of e-juice
  • Wait for the cotton present inside the to absorb the e-juice
  • You can also drip the e-juice on the cotton directly and leave it be for a few minutes
  • Once the cotton completely absorbs the liquid, screw your coil to the tank, fill the liquid and start vaping

Variables of Coils

Resistance

The heating wire’s resistance is related to its length. It is also worth keeping in mind that the difference between the contact coil and spaced coil is negligible.

Wattage

Wattage is the amount of power used by an e-cigarette. Making adjustments to the vape wattage essentially means changing the temperature created by the coil for heating the juice.

Spitback

Spit back is quite common in vaping, but it happens in spaced coils. This is mainly because of the large space these coils have. Contact coils, on the other hand, are capable of blocking spit back effectively. .

Contact Coils

Contact coils are ideal because of their concentrated heating abilities, which results in concentrated tastes. These coils are quite easy to build and can block spit back quite effectively. The only drawback of these replacement coils is that the wick can burn too easily.

Spaced Coils

As the name suggests, spaced coils have sufficient space, which helps with even heating and prevents the wick from burning easily. These coils also offer higher resistance levels with more spit back being the only downside.
