Vaping Gave Me My Life Back

Vaping Gave Me My Life Back

Vaping has not only changed my life, but it has saved it. My health is slowly getting better and my depression is under control. I am no longer worried about cigarettes killing me. I can live my best life not being addicted to smelly sticks.

I had known for some time that I needed to quit smoking.  My mom had gotten diagnosed with COPD in 2007. She was told to quit smoking but she didn't.  My father quit but I didn't. If I would have, maybe she would be alive right now.

Sadly, my mother passed away from COPD in February 2010. I watched her slowly have a harder and harder time to breathe. Unfortunately , she had gotten bronchitis and never got better.  I took it very hard. Within two years I had completely spiraled downward. I was doing meth and cocaine and was severely depressed.

I ended up overdosing with a suicide attempt. Upon being hospitalized, I had to have a fasciotomy.

I ended up having a severe allergic reaction to the succinylcholine which is an anesthetic that paralyzes the muscles. I was then put into a medically-induced coma for 10 days. When I woke up from the coma I no longer could move from the neck down.

The doctors had no reason as to why it happened though.  The doctor said that I did not have nerve or spine damage just that I should gain back my most or all of my movement. I have gained quite a bit back. However, I do still use a wheelchair.

My accident was almost 6 years ago. After it first happened I lived in a nursing home for two and a half years. Living in the nursing home at age 27 was a bit of a reality check.  I had to have help with everything.

No one realizes how bad it would be until you get put in the situation yourself.

I eventually started smoking cigarettes again, but knew I had to change my life. While in the nursing home I began to vape in 2014. Vaping means the world to me. Don't get me wrong I have had a few cigarettes since beginning vaping, but every time I do all I can think is "why did I ever think this tasted good?"

I now have my own apartment. I am very strong-willed and do everything I can to make sure that I don't have to go back to a nursing home.

I know the Lord saved my life for a reason so I try to make the best out of every situation.  I try to be an advocate for suicide prevention and struggling adults everywhere.

Vaping helps me to stay independent. Now I don't have to worry about dying from COPD. I can breathe and the circulation in my feet is getting better. I was able to have foot surgery recently. Now I have a chance to walk again and I'm taking it. Also I am not harming my fur babies with tobacco smoke.

Vaping has truly changed my life. I wouldn't change it for anything. I'm going to stay strong and vape my way into recovery.

Thank you for reading,  Jessica
